ADVOCACY & LEGISLATION

The Michigan Association of Timbermen's staff and lobbyist work to provide Michigan's forest industry effective representation with legislators and government officials on the local, state, and national level to favorably influence public policy and legislation.

The Timbermen Have a Strong Track Record of Legislative Victories

1978 - Log farm license plates allowed for logging trucks

1979 - Passage of farm plate bill for logging trucks

1984 - H.B. 4960 exempts logging equipment from personal property tax 

1990 - H.B. 5161 allows 70 foot wood hauling trucks 

1993 - P.A. 50.1994 passed to allow contract truckers to use loggers' license plates

2013 - Assisted in the development of the Qualified Forest Program
